Apple Must Allow Alternative Browser Engines on iOS by December Under Japan's New Mobile Software Competition Act
Apple will be forced to allow browsers that do not function on the WebKit browser engine, under Japan’s Mobile Software Competition Act Guidelines. The country's regulator dubbed the Cupertino company’s practice as anti-competitive as it blocked other browsers to offer the same performance as Safari. This will essentially allow other web browsers and in-app browsers to use other browser engines like Blink and Gecko.
