Government Removes Sanchar Saathi Pre-Installation Mandate After Pushback
The Government of India's Ministry of Communications announced on Wednesday that it is withdrawing the mandatory pre-installation of the Sanchar Saathi app. The ministry said that the popularity of the app is growing. Hence, the mandate is now rendered moot. The decision comes soon after a report suggested that Apple plans to push back against the new mandate, citing privacy and security concerns. While the app was earlier reported to be an unremovable one, the Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, recently clarified that users will be able to uninstall it from their phones.
