Apple, Samsung and Other Firms Reportedly Push Back on Preinstallation of Aadhaar App on Phones
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) rolled out the full version of its new Aadhaar app earlier this January, and India’s telecom ministry reportedly made a private request to smartphone manufacturers to preinstall this app on phones. This proposal reportedly faced opposition from a group representing major smartphone companies. The Aadhaar-related request is said to be one of six proposals that the Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (MAIT), an Indian IT industry body, has pushed back against.
